93rd International Peace Marathon in Kosice 2016.
93rd International Peace Marathon in Kosice 2016.
The first weekend of October, when last summer sang its swan song, organized team of runners with Active Traveling agency started the road to Košice, an important center of Eastern Slovakia, and once one of the most important cities of the kingdom of Hungary, which has gone through many turbulent events and upheavals. The journey began in the early hours of the first day of October, which was a Saturday and ended up staying a bit due to some unforeseen downtime. I boarded after midnight in Novi Sad close to the highway thanks to my friend Ljuba and his cousin Branko who came after me. The brightness of the morning and the morning hours of the first day of October has enabled us to enjoy the regions of central and north-eastern Hungary, its hills and fields, roadside crosses, small villages and beautiful houses. Slovaks lingered us about the toll and we came to the hostel Barno about 11 pm.
After settling in and leaving the things we went to the expo for starting packages. I liked the bags, and I was especially pleased with the book I ordered through the site about the history of Košice marathon, which is really good quality. Since I forgot a synthetic shirt, I decided to run out the race in a marathons cotton shirt colored blue. Despite the fatigue we decided to look around the city after some food. A few of us took a tour of the main street with the churches and other monuments, of which the most impressive was Gothic cathedral from XIV century in which I was the week before the marathon, and attended worship. I took a smallish book about Košice in 4 languages and postcards, while Ivan from Pozarevac opted for magnets. Night journey took its toll, so that in spite that I drank an espresso I still do have a headache and nausea overwhelmed me a bit what often happens in such cases. This has prevented me to enjoy the humble pasta party which I attended. Around half past eight I got hold of hostel room, and at about 20 h after I drunk head probiotics pills I drifted off to sleep. Restorative sleep I was reborn, someone’s ringing clock woke me up at three at night, and after the toilet I was still so-so half asleep for next two hours, then coffee, breakfast out of the bag, the inevitable toilet and prepare for the race.
Starting early because of a desire to visit the church and leave things changing, I met Misha Segedija and his wife Dragana who came by train and were in the same hotel, and we did not know that. We had a little excuse. Somehow I came to the building where I changed clothes and left things a little exercise, warm up and try to breakthrough to the starting line, because we all get a zone D for the slowest. The race started at 9am. The first 4 kilometers, it was a little difficult to run because of the crowd, and then a little bit of weight. The route was interesting, after the old town a kind of suburb, park, wide streets and boulevards, tram tracks, after a very mild uphill climb, people on the street who look and welcome, encourage us to persevere. At the beginning of the second round starts with me so frequent minor crisis that was more inertia, lethargy, a little tired legs. I was afraid to take magnesium powder due to stomach that I was becoming weaker, or anything else except water and isotonic for refreshments. I perked up quickly, so I thought that I was with a lot of freshness and energy going between 24 and 29-th kilometer. Small Fatigue is started again after the 30th. The plan was to go in front of the landscapes in three and a half hours, as long as possible, and then if you leave power at the end of as many do. I held a long slightly below 5min. per kilometer, or a sudden drop in about 38 th and major crisis when it seemed that I would walk, or even stand or give up, begin nausea, have made to me in this part of the visit mentioned pejs a small group of runners around him. However, I managed to stay in the race with a little slower pace, and when I crossed the fortieth kilometer, I slowly began to turn up and. Here comes the start of 42 km and the last refreshment, I wished some water, a volunteer asks “Paulie away?” Almost exhausted slow thinking, thinking it gives me to drink, a neželeći as usual to stop, nod, and he slapped me two glasses of chilled water the neck and the back. And if it was hot, sore afraid of the consequences, soon I came to the finish line with a time 3: 31: 43, the net time after receiving the medal, and refreshments quickly I take the completely wet shirt, ogrnuh the nylon which are shared and followed a long half kilometers to the locker room, where I tried to calm nausea and probiotic yogurt that I left there. I did it in spite of all the exercises and I was pleased.
I dragged myself to the hostel with a medal around my neck, where I waited a bit unpleasant surprise to have to pay extra for things in the room because it was past noon, and that if I do not hurry up, I’ll have to pay more. Tired get my hands on the shower, but I did it on time to get down with things and solve this unpleasant situation. Here are slowly and I met with the others. We had more time to drive down to the city and enjoy before departure. We tested each other out when the race went on. My appetite has not yet opened because of the efforts of the race, but the pallor or yellowing slowly faded, first an apple, and bio- hill, and then it is very prijalo a beer in the company in the center of Kosice. After a short shopping in the supermarket, we hurried to the bus and set out for Serbia. The journey back was pleasant despite the fatigue and faster it goes. Evening ride through Hungary with constant rain did not spoil the good impression. After the first border I left a little after half an expedition after midnight, and then after walking to the center of Palic I called the taxi that drove me to the apartment in Subotica.
A room in a hostel I shared with an experienced marathon Drago Knezevic, and young forces in this sport in Belgrade, Bojan and Elijah. Since our race is a remarkable result achieved Kristijan Stosic 2:29:03, was the tenth but he was not bad Ivan Cirkovic, a graduate student of philosophy, about 3 hours and 9 minutes, could have been better that he started all the way back. I hope good company and even better race in Athens for a little more than a month, where a large part of the same team will be. Unfortunately I do not have any photos to complete this report, as my humble phone did not have enough memory to record anything.
Greetings from Dominik
